Reviews

Ad·ver·sary - Bone Music
This isn't a groundbreaking album by any means. It is, however, a deeply personal album made from a masterfully produced mix of genres.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_adversary_bm.htm

Concrete Cookie & the Maggot Farmer - Mondegreen
An aptly titled aural malapropism, this is an engaging release that nods in the direction of other artists within its chosen genre, whilst keeping something back that marks out its own individuality.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_concretecookiemaggotfarmer_m.htm

Thomas Watkiss - Ancestor - Phase 1: Silence
What is exceptional about "Silence" is its undeniable delicacy of movement. As with many of its peers, this is music of meditation and patience, funereal reverb and thick layers of emptiness. Its power lies in the understated and tentative, the barely audible oscillations, passionate organic textures and rumbling arrays.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_thomaswatkiss_ap1s.htm

Famine - Every Mirror Turns Black
A particularly painful album to categorize, as it represents somewhere in the vicinity of fourteen years of music production experience coming to a head. But that doesn't mean it's a bad album - on the contrary, Famine deliver something that's difficult to get into, but even harder to stop listening to.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_famine_emtb.htm

Perfection Plastic - Triomphe de la Matière
One of those albums to crank out before heading out for a night on the tiles. Fun, without threat, and will not be out of place sat in the collections of the hearts of you out there who simply like letting your hair down and not getting bogged down in technicalities.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_perfectionplastic_tdlm.htm

Reviews

Blaerg - Dysphoric Sonorities
Blaerg effectively went beyond the breakcore paradigms of 'faster-harder-louder' and insane chaos, creating a truly captivating album - an interesting assortment of intelligent and methodical compositions with definite groove which, despite the title and the occasional harsher track, is actually quite laidback and bound to appeal to more than just the breakcore enthusiasts.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_blaerg_ds.htm

Majdanek Waltz - Hamlet's Childhood
A well organized and well recorded album, full of emotional music, beautiful instrumentation and composition, and it will definitely enthrall you and keep you listening. Song after song, "Hamlet's Childhood" evokes grief and still stands out as an amazing industrial folk album.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_majdanekwaltz_hc.htm

Insane Asylum - Caustic Factory Outlet
The distorted, discordant initial impression of this EP by Insane Asylum evolves into something more coherent and cohesive as time passes, eventually growing into something pleasantly noisy, rather than the slapdash arrangement it seems to be.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_insaneasylum_cfo.htm

V/A - Ressonus net vol.1
Where some ambient music is easily listenable, atmospheric stuff that can enhance or even alter a mood, this is, by and large, flat and lifeless, save for a few hounourable mentions. The intent is above reproach - individual, hand-crafted and unique musical endeavours - but the content fails to live up to it.

Reviews

Fractional - Come Mierda EP
A short, sweet release from Belgian artist Fractional, this EP takes a selection of tracks from the full-length, "Come Mierda," adds a new number and throws in two remixes (from DJ Hidden and Cdatakill) to boot. It EP proves a worthwhile sampler, useful for DJs and collectors alike. A call for alternative remixed tracks than just the one would be the only complaint.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_fractional_cmep.htm

Synnack - v2
With generous extras thrown in as here, and a quality of musicianship outshining some of the minor failings, "V2" is definitely a worthwhile release for anybody interested in the more industrial end of experimental electronica, another good reason to keep buying CDs in this iPod dominated age!
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_synnack_v2.htm

Alien Skin - Do Not Open Till Doomsday
So with no complaints other than the occasional cheesy lyric or annoying vocal effect, which accompany most synthpop albums of above average quality these days, Alien Skin's debut offers a maturity and expertise lacking in the majority of similar groups and is recommended.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_alienskin_dotd.htm

Xsoz - Basic Topology
"Basic Topology" lacks the solid foundation it needs to maintain a perpetual shelf life. With a little more essence added to the core of the Xsoz sound, Raptis may have something that will etch itself into the minds of his potential listeners; regrettably this just isn't that album.

Justin Brink - Pneumatic Detach
Pneumatic Detach is the solo project of Massachusetts-based Justin Brink. Since his debut release in 2001, Pneumatic Detach has gained steady momentum and carved a name for himself as one of the most unique acts in the underground industrial/rhythmic noise scene.

Reviews

Gjöll - Way Through Zero
Periodically we find albums like Gjöll's "Way Through Zero" which, unlike 75% of the same old, recycled garbage out there that passes for industrial nowadays, album still manages to evoke emotion without reeking of cheesy manufactured angst for angst's sake.

Ninth Desert - Different Trouble Experiences Of Twilight
"Different Trouble Experiences of Twilight" is a confident, well-structured journey, one that requires more than one listen to fully appreciate, and which rewards listeners with a rich, uncluttered soundscape in which to lose themselves.

Maurizio Bianchi & Sparkle In Grey - Nefelodhis
An enjoyable listen that goes across vast sonic territory, sometimes sounding something akin to dreamy shoegaze music and at other times disturbing noises and bizarre sounds. Although it covers a lot of territory, it manages good transitions so it doesn't have the problem of jumping all over the place.

V/A - D-Trash Records Music Videos
The diversity of featured artists means there's something for everyone on this release, and the added bonus of the Jukebox feature makes it a very well rounded retrospective of D-Trash's work to date. Looking forward to the next ten years!

Somegirl - The Velvet Hour
Though when listening to "The Velvet Hour" one gets a justified sense of déjà entendu, it remains a solid release. Nevertheless, good as it may be, Somegirl would certainly benefit from being more daring both musically as well as lyrically: the talent and creativity are there, they just have to tap it.

Kotra - Reset
If there was such a thing as 'avant-garde/experimental lounge music,' "Reset" could easily fit the description and purpose. In the meantime, "Reset" can feel like a work in progress, the aural version of the artist's notebook: it may be interesting but it's appeal is limited to a small audience and definitely an acquired taste.

Nerthus - Urban
Plodding percussion and glitched-out synth lines whir throughout and are the backbone of the composition. Apt for a restless sleep or in accompaniment to an evening of hallucinogenic introspection, "Urban" will undoubtedly stir your thoughts.

Battery Cage - Forever Never Ends
All in all, "Forever Never Ends" is a musically diverse recording featuring some enjoyable moments, albeit its lack of focus and a scattering of influences will either enthrall or irk the listener, depending on who is wearing the headphones.

History Of Guns - Acedia
Overall, "Acedia" sounds almost exactly like what one might have imagined, back in the day, punk rock should be in the twenty-first century. Too bad, most punk rockers never looked beyond their narrow alleys, which History of Guns have clearly done. Maybe because they're not exactly punk rockers.
